Bolero Dance History

Bolero music originated in eastern Cuba in the late 19th century, and the lyrics often feature romantic stories of love. Note that the Cuban bolero is not related to an older Spanish dance of the same name.

In the United States Bolero is part of the American Rhythm category of ballroom dance and features a slow tempo and Slow Quick Quick timing. Bolero is unique among rhythm dances in that in addition to Cuban motion, the dance also incorporates rise and fall and contra body movement which makes it an intricate and alluring dance.
