What’s Salsa on 2?

While the basic step is the same for Salsa on 1, Salsa on 2, and Mambo – the musicality is different. Here’s a quick chart to sort out the differences:

Salsa on 1

Start dancing on the 1
The break step happens on 1
Leaders start with a forward step

Salsa on 2

Start dancing on the 1
The break step happens on 2
Leaders start with a back step

Mambo

Start dancing on the 2
The break step happens on 2
Leaders start with a forward step
