Top 8 Tips for Followers 💃

Embrace the Art of Following!

Being a great follower isn’t passive—it’s a dynamic and skillful role that makes every dance a work of art 🖼️

🔹 Be Present and Responsive
Great followers are focused on the leader’s cues and respond instantly to every nuance. Use all your senses to notice and match your partner’s energy, timing, and shape.

🔹 Stay in Position
It’s your job to stay in the correct dance position, maintaining proper offset and head position. This is especially important when transitioning through different dance positions as you’ll need to adjust so that you’re always in the right place at the right time.

🔹 Move Your Own Body
Don’t make your leader push or pull you into position. Notice the leader’s invitation and power your own body to move accordingly.

🔹 Hold Up Your Arms
A follower’s frame should have a light, upward energy. While your arms do lay on top of your partner’s, don’t rest your arms on the leader or make them support the weight of your arms.

🔹 Maintain Tone in Your Frame
Your frame is essential. It’s how we communicate as dancers and it makes leading and following possible. Keep tone in your arms and body so you can clearly feel and respond to your leader’s signals.

🔹 Know Your Steps
Only by knowing your own part can you be an equal partner in the dance. Learning your footwork and alignments helps you respond more easily and effortlessly to the lead.

🔹 Express Yourself!
Once connection and timing are in place, you can add your own style and flair. Following doesn't mean fading—your role is vital and expressive!

✨ The best followers make it look easy, but it takes awareness, control, and lots of practice to dance with grace and ease. Keep training and enjoy the journey!
