The 4 Tracks of the Feet

One of the first things new dancers want to know is, how do I avoid stepping on my partners feet? ☺️ Understanding the 4 Tracks of the Feet will improve connection with your partner, allow you to dance more smoothly with less effort, and will prevent those awkward clashes.

Think of the Four Tracks of the Feet like a four lane highway where each person’s foot has a separate lane for travel to the destination 🚗

In closed position the follower is offset on the leader’s right side and this creates the four tracks:

👣 Track 1 - The follower's left leg steps in the outside lane.

👣 Track 2 - The leader’s right leg steps in between their partner’s feet

👣 Track 3 - The follower’s right leg steps in between their partners feet

👣 Track 4 - The leader’s left leg steps in the outside lane.

So stay in your lane while dancing in closed position to arrive safely at your dance floor destination, honk honk! 🦺
