"Dance has introduced me to other people I never would have likely met otherwise. It has also got us up and moving a bit more."
What inspired you to start dancing?
We were looking for a date night kind of activity to share together without the kiddo. Came across Revolution Ballroom and we thought it might be fun, but decided not to initially due to neither of us knowing anything about dancing. We of course finally decided to give it a try and have enjoyed it since.Â
Favorite dance or dances?
Waltz and Foxtrot are my favorite. I tend to prefer the smoother, flowing dancing. Likely due to the slower pace which allows me more time to figure out what to do next.
What classes and events have you joined?
So far we have done the beginner (introduction) , level two (smooth operator), level three (stepping out), and Argentine Tango, all of which covered a wide variety of dances. Although I have my favorites I will admit they are all fun. The monthly social dance parties are generally themed so dressing the part is always fun.
What do you enjoy about dancing at Revolution Ballroom?
The instructor is great, but for me it is the other dancers that really make the experience great. Learning something new can be daunting but the other dancers, along with the instructor, always make you feel comfortable and willing to try new things.
What benefits has dance brought to your life?
Dance has introduced me to other people I never would have likely met otherwise. It has also got us up and moving a bit more.
Is there anything that surprised you about the process of learning to dance?
Although I would have sworn I was born with two left feet and generally incapable of dancing elegantly, I have over the years developed some since of rhythm.Â
Also, I learned there are in fact four walls to dance along.
What would you say to people who would like to learn to dance but are a bit nervous about giving it a try?
I will borrow a quote from Micheal Jordan - "To learn to succeed, you must first learn to fail." If dance is something you want to try, just give it a go. Mistakes will be made, learning will occur, and before you know it, you find yourself wanting more. Everyone has to start somewhere afterall.
