Tango Dance History
Fuel your passion with the fiery Tango 🔥
Tango is one of the four American Smooth dances and is a passionate and dramatic dance that features sharp, staccato movements and stalking walks.
Argentine Tango was born in Argentina in the late 1800's. Initially this passionate dance born in the bordellos was shunned by upper class society. As Tango spread from Argentina to Europe and the United States in the 1900’s, eventually the dance was accepted even in society circles.
In the early 1910's Tango became a hit in Paris, London, and New York. Tango was popular in New York in the winter of 1910 – 1911 becoming all the rage right before the First World War. Vernon and Irene Castle made their fortune from Tango, becoming America’s sweethearts of the dance. There was a flurry of Tango dance hall openings and tango teas became popular in big hotels. Couples even danced between courses at the finer restaurants. Rudolph Valentino made Tango famous in 1921, performing a sensual Tango in the silent film “Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse”.
A ballroom dance favorite, Tango dominates the floor with its drama and passion!
