Social Dance Hygiene: Pro tips to be Fresh for Dance Floor
Summer is here and while we DO want you to bring the heat on the dance floor, we don't want you to bring the stink/sweat/BO that can occur.
What's a dancer to do?
Hygiene for Dancers to the Rescue! ⛑️
Let's start with the basics.
Whatever your level of grooming and hygiene - you will need to step it up when you start social dancing.
What's an acceptable level of cleanliness in normal social interactions is very different from what's needed when you're mere inches from someone.
At dance, you'll be up close and in people's personal space, so you want to be first date fresh!
Make an extra effort as a courtesy to your partners.
If you've danced for any length of time, you've spent time dancing with someone who has BO or bad breath.
It's not pleasant, and 100% of those people did not know that they were smelly.
Think about that! 😳
🪥 Brush your teeth before class
- Not - I'm good because I brushed them this morning (or even a couple of hours ago).
- Do yourself a favor and put a toothbrush and toothpaste in your dance bag.
- If all else fails, use mouthwash at the studio.
🌿 Wear Deodorant
- If you prefer natural products make sure your choice is effective.
🛁 Shower before dance
- If you don't have time before class, at least freshen up and put on clean clothes if you can.
- Wash your hands at a minimum.
🚫 Don't wear Perfume or Cologne
- Artificial fragrances can trigger allergies.
- Also, I can't tell you the number of times I've come home from class reeking of men's cologne from just a few minutes dancing with someone.
🍽 Avoid eating strong-smelling foods
- Minimize consuming foods such as garlic and fish right before class.
🚭 Don't smoke or vape before class
- Smoke can linger on your breath and clothes
Feel more confident by making an extra effort to be fresh and ready to dance. Your partners will appreciate it too. 🤗
