How to Choose Smooth Dance Shoes

Stepping into the world of dance and wondering what shoes to wear? While we don’t require any special dance shoes at the Intro level, proper dance shoes DO make dancing easier and are needed at higher levels. If you’ve been dancing for a month and plan to continue, it makes sense to invest in a pair of dance shoes so you can enjoy dancing for years to come!

SMOOTH SHOES

Wear smooth shoes for Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, and Viennese WaltzHeels:  Choose a closed-toe heel (or flat) with suede soles. It’s traditional to choose a smooth shoe to match your skin tone. Unlike a classic pump, smooth shoes feature open sides. And they usually they have straps (ankle, crossed, or T) to keep your shoe in place while dancing.

Oxfords:  Choose a lace-up oxford-style shoe with suede soles. Color is usually black (but may match the pants). Leather is great for social dancing and choose patent leather for shows and competition.
